Oil Types Explained

Conventional Oil

Standard mineral-based oil. Cheapest option, shorter change intervals (3,000-5,000 miles). Good for older engines with simple designs.

Synthetic Blend

Mix of conventional and synthetic. Better protection than conventional at a moderate cost. Good for trucks and SUVs with moderate loads.

Full Synthetic

Engineered molecules for maximum protection. Best for modern engines, turbocharged engines, and extreme conditions. Longest change intervals (7,500-15,000 miles).

How to Check Your Oil Level

  1. Park on a level surface and wait 5 minutes after turning off the engine
  2. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a rag
  3. Reinsert the dipstick fully, then pull it out again
  4. The oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks
  5. If low, add oil in small amounts (0.25-0.5 qt) and recheck
  6. Check oil color: golden/amber is good, dark black may indicate it needs changing
