Brake Upgrade Guide
Pads First: Upgrading brake pads is the most cost-effective improvement. Performance pads (like Hawk HPS or EBC Yellowstuff) offer better initial bite and heat resistance for $50-$150 per axle.
Stainless Lines: Braided stainless steel brake lines eliminate the spongy feel of rubber hoses expanding under pressure. They improve pedal feel for around $80-$150 for a full set.
Slotted/Drilled Rotors: Slotted rotors help degas pads and maintain bite in hard driving. Drilled rotors look great but can crack under track abuse. Budget $200-$400 per axle for quality blanks.
Big Brake Kits (BBK): A BBK with larger rotors and multi-piston calipers dramatically increases thermal capacity and stopping power. Essential for heavy track use. Budget $1,500-$5,000+ per axle.
Fluid: Upgrade to DOT 4 racing fluid (like Motul RBF 600) for track use. Standard DOT 3/4 boils at lower temps, leading to brake fade. Flush annually or before each track season.
